Well, I don't know how it started... I think it was one shop owner in Staten Island talking to another shop owner in the Bronx about the kids that ride... and next thing ya know - there's a little unorganized contest. I guess contest isn't the right word, per se, but the Bronx guys rode out to strut their stuff and the Staten Island guys did their thing.
Now, no offense to those guys from the Bronx but hahahaha... they were terrible. Anyway, I expected the day to be like 20 or so guys - real informal. When we rode up there were already 30 or so bikes there... and we brought another 20... plus cars, spectators and kids. Unfortunately I don't have a video camera but I expect this to change very soon. I did, however, manage to get a few pictures with my digital camera which is a feat in and of itself.
I give "props" to the guy everyone calls the Egyptian Magician and another guy - Mario. Now I haven't seen Mario as much as I've see the Egyptian Magician (he's actually Israeli) but Mario was WAY up high putting on a show for the crowd.
The day was a blast - two minor crashes - one was a good endo gone bad (something I know nothing about) and I didn't see the other... the cops showed up brandishing a shot gun and we all ran away. But it was all good. The most spectacular crash was later in the day after a new rear tire had to be "broken in" doing rolling burnouts... With the tire hot and the adrenaline high - a fantastic wheelie was done on a very short street... don't know what he was thinking but lots of tumbling and a near miss of a dumpster and a very eventful day came to an end. The guy is fine - he was mostly concerned about his watch since he wasn't wearing any protective gear - it got a little scratched.
