Places
You know, I've never understood why there's so many damn Harleys at Bike
Week. I mean, Bike Week is about the Daytona 200 -- there are no
cruisers on the track... yet wherever you go -- cruisers cruisers every
where.
You know, I think two wheels are better than four and one wheel is the best
of all - so I'm
not going to start bashing Harley people or cruisers or any one else -- it's all
good. We all love motorcycles and it's not about brands or anything else
but doing what we love -- riding.
However, in the past few years, it seems like there are fewer and fewer
places where sport bikes are welcome. The good people at Hess were quite
tolerant and even receptive of us congregating at their station -- I made sure
to give them all my fuel
business and always buy something when I was there... but the cops would run us
off from there. So we'd go to Wendy's... and the cops would run us off
from there.. so we'd go to the Krispy Kreme and -- well, you guessed it,
the cops would run us off from there. That's where the Rice Paddy
came in.
The
people at Motorcycle World came up
with the idea for the Rice Paddy or at least, they sponsored it. Lame name
but good concept. It was for the sport bike people... although as you can
see by this picture, all bikes were welcome.
Don't get me wrong, we weren't given carte blanche and allowed to do whatever
we wanted, but
a lot more was tolerated at RP than anywhere else. They had a bike
wash, dyno shoot out, bike show, various vendors, music and food. I'm
anxious to see what they come up with next year -- if there is a next year for
the RP. During the day - this is where you were most likely to find people
congregating.
I'll have video coverage of RP in the next few days - so stay tuned.
