Friday Night

Well, coincidence or not, somehow my last day of work coincided with the day I was leaving for Bike Week.  Imagine that.   Friday afternoon couldn't come soon enough.  I've been waiting for the Daytona trip all damn Winter.

the really big truckThrough many conversations, emails and phone calls, we some how managed to coordinate a truck, trailer, bikes and everyone all in one place.

So, surprisingly, we didn't leave on time... we were "LEAVING AT 8PM"  ya know... But we had some excuses....

  • It was cold (you know it doesn't SEEM cold when you're all hyped to leave, but when you're sitting outside in sweats, on a cold metal tank for hours on end trying to figure out the best way to strap a bike on, it gets cold real fast)
  • It was dark (REAL dark)
  • It's a trailer we're not used to... (not one of those trailers with those little convenient eye ain't they purdyhooks either, we had to rig all the strap hooks and everyone had an opinion on which way was the right way to do it -- which took forever, but whaddaya gonna do)
  • We couldn't find the right straps (they were around here somewhere)
  • Some straps were too long (oops, that's whatcha get from buying over the Internet)
  • The ratchet thingy wasn't working right (how does that work again)
  • Who has the zip ties (zip ties and duct tape - don't leave home w/o em)
  • How are we going to put all the bikes on
  • Will this rub that -- will that rub this...  are you sure this will hold?  shouldn't you put the kick stand up?  zip tie the brakes?  what what?

And on and on....

But, somehow, we got everything together...  so here I am, about to take a trip down to Daytona with a coupla guys I barely know, staying at a place I didn't make reservations for, hauling one of my most prized possessions on a trailer at 90mph with straps that I ordered on the Internet -- and ya know what?   I didn't care, I'm on my way to Bike Week.

Stay tuned for the rest of the days at Bike Week...
