Racing!
Well -- about the only thing better than racing -- is
incorporating wheelies into racing. Formula-USA
teamed up with XSBA and had roadracing AND a
wheelie contest.
There were five of us girls that battled idiot drivers, vans
trying to kill us,
mad traffic and slow boys on bikes to get to Pocono Racetrack on Saturday.
Oh -- and let's not forget... the first 40 miles we were following a cop... I
never knew I could go so slow for so long.... but eventually he turned
off -- and it was all good. I, of course, didn't get my camera out until
later in the day - so I don't have pictures of the journey up there... however,
we have another ride planned NEXT weekend... and the weekend after Labor Day --
if you're female and want to come along - send me an email.
So we got to the Poconos. Ms Pinky changed out of her
leathers and into shorts
-- I'm changing her name to Ms Whitey. She may very well have the whitest
legs known to man. I was definitely regretting I was in jeans and really
gratefully that I decided not to ride in full leathers. Annick, being the
smart one, wore full leathers... but failed to bring shorts to change into...
poor girl. Anyway, we locked up our bikes and headed to the
paddock. We saw our good friends from ReDuc...they
gave us REFRESHING WATER!! which was such a blessing after the
grueling ride from the City. We stowed our gear so we wouldn't have to lug
it around (thanks again ReDuc) and headed out to see what's what.
The five of us went off in search of various people we wanted to
see. ..
I met with Peter Jones from Street &
Strip magazine... and agreed to meet him later for a few pictures.
Hopefully the pictures will be good and the article will talk about girls on
bikes as a positive thing. [fingers crossed]
While some of the races were going on - I went to talk to the
various wheelie people... LVX, D-Aces,
Driving To Endanger, Ten
Ninety 6... everyone was in good spirits -- some really good competition out
there..
The StarBoyz boycotted the XSBA event -- which is probably for
the best -- they're getting a little tired. It was good to see some fresh
faces at this thing. One kid did a twisty-tank move that I'd never seen
before... while sitting on the tank he did a 360 rotation ... it was so
impressive. But I'm not sure
who he rides with -- but as soon as I figure out who - I'll give him mad props
for the move.
After the XSBA event, we went back to find Peter to do a quick p hoto
shoot. The other girls bailed on us and decided to head home.
No idea why they didn't stick around. So it was just the three of us out
there representing... Anyway - after much hassle - we finally got onto the track
to take some pictures. Sadly, my knee is still shot from surgery and I
couldn't really do anything impressive - so the pictures were all
stills.
The
photographer was great and a lot of fun. Peter had to get naked for one
shot -- don't know what the purpose of that was - but having naked guys around
is always a good thing. Ms Whitey was quite cranky at this point
from food depravation. Note to self: bring candy for cranky women.
We had lots of fun with the pictures -- I hope they're flattering (did I say
that already)... After an appropriate amount of shots, we could take no
more whining from Ms Whitey and we headed off to Murphy's for food. Thanks
to Peter and Mr Photographer (I don't know his name) for putting up with the
cranky biotches.
The ride home was crazy... Cindy had a tinted shield (as did I)
and some of the roads are so dark -- it was slow going for a while. We
kept the pace slow for a while trying to keep each other in sight... and then
some squids blew by me -- tinted visor be damned. I wasn't about to be
passed by a bunch of squids... Seeing is so over-rated anyway and riding with a
group is always better than riding by yourself cuz you can always blame the
other guy if the cops show up. So I took off - to teach them a few moves
and left everyone else to go their separate ways home.
All in all a very good Saturday... Fast Gurlz Rule.
