Bikes are amazing. Since 1999 when the R6 came out and it seems that the bike industry has revolutionized. The 600s today are seemingly just as fast and powerful as the 900s of yesterday... And while the gixxer 6, the r6, the katana 6 are all great bikes in and of themselves... upgrade to a 1000 and everything changes.
My good buddy Barbara found the
prettiest red R1 and it was just too good to pass up. Good luck to her and
her new plaything! After much debate over the heat, the humidity and
the predicted thunderstorms we decided to go for a short ride sans leathers to
play locally.

I rode off to Brooklyn to meet up with Barbara and her man
Nick.
Happy to be playing on the streets of Brooklyn I drive up to her place and see
her new toy! What a beauty. Of course, the way R1s look best is
flanked by two Suzukis! So I thought our bikes made quite a sight.
Here
are two pictures of the girl and her toy. Good luck
with
that savage beast of yours, Barbara -- and good luck with the bike too.
:-)
Although, allegedly when I left lower Manhattan the temperature was only 89... the temp outside felt like an open oven door with a fan blowing the heat at ya. NASTY.
The R1 is a helluva bike and considering it's newness to Barbara and our lack of leathers, we decided to take it easy on our journey from BK to Queens. Nick led us to Astoria where we had a fabulous brunch at a place called Cavo.
I
love my motorcycle but Sahara-like weather, Belt traffic and an engine
temperature over 200 degrees sure makes stopping a nice thing! So in we
went to Cavo's luxurious air conditioning... lots of ice water and a couple of
diet cokes. Some cooling off, fluids and rest and we were good to go.

If you stop in the place, check out their BURGERS... duh-licous! While
we waited for Manny aka Pinky Man (who refused to be photographed), I had a
double espresso (iced) and tried a Greek Frappe
(mmm). I'm not a caffeine kinda girl so I was pretty
wired.
WHEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeee.
By the time we got back out on the road I was raring to go. Lots
of play on the streets of Astoria and we rode off to Astoria Park to take pi
ctures
of our pretty bikes. Nick thought the
background would be nice, but, personally, I figure as long the picture is of a
bike who cares about the background! hahaha But it was still a
fun place to hang out for a bit and rest from the hot hot hot day.
Once we got the picture taking out of our systems (Babsi was taking pictures
too!), Nick led us to this wonderful place that HAND WASHES
BIKES!
ya hoo. It was out in Astoria somewhere - they did a superb job and I got
all that nasty WTC dust off the bike again... downtown Manhattan sure is
DIRTY.
We also met up with another Gixxer 1000 there that was all polishe
d
and absolutely gorgeous. Of course, it didn't sound as good as mine --
that damn Black Widow
pipe just can't be beat. I love that pipe, my helmet is off to BW Racing.
Go them.
After we left with shiny clean bikes we decided to call it a day and flew through the crazy streets of Queens and Brooklyn and Manhattan to head home. All-in-all a good day.
For all you nay sayers out there who listen to the weather forecasts -- shame on you for staying inside!
