California Riding

Well --- I must say, considering the weather NYC has had this winter, I sure did pick a fine time to move!  I don't miss snow at all. * As a matter of fact, check out this picture - it was taken in February and, YES, that's the beach in the background!

AT THE BEACH IN FEBRUARY!

So my first day out to play in California and it happens to be overcast!  But still better than snow and it's a helluva lot warmer here than there so I got no complaints.  I called up my pink haired friend Susanna who moved out to the West Coast shortly after 9/11 (and who can blame her) and we made plans to meet up.

She tells me of this place called Ortega aka Hwy 74.  As you can see by the aerial picture - this is a nice twisty turny little road so we agreed to meet for breakfast at Ortega Lookout.   There were lots of bikes there and more sport bikes than cruisers which is all good by me.

Although allegedly the views at Ortega Lookout are supposed to be awesome, due to the fog the lack visibility prevented us from seeing anything cool.  We asked one of the guys to take our picture and he wanted to know if it was ok to chop off our heads?  (Yeah, Mr Co-Dependent, you know who you are)  These California guys have a strange sense of humor.   But the picture came out great despite his idea that torso-only shots make for good viewing...

So after breakfast and some catching up - we played on the roads that California is famous for and I tried to remember how to corner (I guess all the drag racing has taken its toll on my turning abilities - oops).  The roads out here are sweeeeeeeeeet.  We wound up on the infamous Pacific Coast Hwy 1 and just HAD to stop and take a picture of our bikes at the beach to send back to all of our cold fellow riders in NY.  We got a passerby to snap a picture of us -- that's his daughter (and future rider) in the picture!  Ain't she a doll!  (FYI: I'm trying to keep my hair out of my eyes - that's not a normal pose for me!)

It was a good day, uneventful for the most part, which is always a good thing. I think I'm gonna like California riding.  Although, strangely,  I didn't see any other female riders - what gives?  Susanna and I think there are actually more girl riders in NY than Cali -- now how can that be?  All you southern California female sport bike riders -- drop me an email, let me know you're alive.
